Description
Suitable for all early engines. This is a non-genuine unit, as the original Airtex tooling once used by Rover has been scrapped. It features an aluminium body with a bypass hose take-off and follows the original design, using a small cast metal impeller as fitted to early A-Series engines.
Further reduction in cavitation can be achieved by fitting the large-diameter water pump pulley CAM6408, as originally used on the Cooper S and later reintroduced on A-Plus engines. Clearance between the large pulley and the cylinder head must be checked, as heavily skimmed heads may foul the pulley.
Small-bore engines fitted with 12G940 heads cannot use CAM6408. In these cases, the top edge of the high-capacity water pump must be modified to ensure the head does not sit on the pump and fail to seal—allow a minimum clearance of 1/16".
This original small cast-impeller pump circulates coolant more smoothly and churns the water less than the later GWP134 large-impeller pump.
