These competition rubber cone springs are designed for racing use and require Hi-Lo adjustable suspension, as they sit higher than standard original-type cones.
Manufactured from a specialized anti-fade rubber compound and with a profile designed to resist deterioration in spring performance during competition use, these cones provide more consistent suspension characteristics under racing conditions. Under typical competition use, they are intended to provide approximately a season of racing before replacement should be considered.
Unlike standard cone springs and many reproductions, which use a nut welded into the upper plate, these cones feature a thick upper plate with an integral internal thread. They can be identified by the yellow dot on the metal base.
The cones are manufactured by a highly specialized rubber engineering company with experience supplying rubber components for Formula 1 applications.
Installation note: When fitting these cones to a Mini with 10" wheels and older-style Hi-Los that use a circlip, approximately 3/4" should be removed from the end of the center threaded adjusting bolt. Without this modification, the bolt can bottom out against the cone spring face and prevent the suspension from being lowered sufficiently. On extremely lowered cars, the Hi-Lo contact face may also require machining by a few millimeters to achieve the required ride height.
As with all rubber suspension components, these cones have a finite service and shelf life. Aging occurs both while stored and once installed, so condition should be checked regularly, particularly on competition cars.
Sold individually. We recommend replacing cone springs in axle pairs.
