Interior lamp with square-ended housing, fitted to a wide range of Classic Minis and related models from October 1964 through October 1974. This lamp superseded the earlier 13H192 unit, which featured a black on/off switch and was also fitted by BMC as an alternative during production.
Courtesy light switches were introduced in October 1964, with this lamp fitted to Cooper models from body number 30891 and Cooper S models from body number 31223. It subsequently became standard equipment on Mk2 and Mk3 Minis until its replacement in 1974 by the rectangular lamp 13H8919, later superseded by EAM1650.
Earlier Mk1 Minis, along with Mk2 Elf and Hornet models, used the pointed "torpedo-end" interior lamp with a black switch. This earlier style is available under part number 14A9148 and was fitted as an alternative to 13H192.
Installation location varied by model. On Mk3 Minis and Mk2 Elf/Hornet models, the lamp was mounted on the side of the roof, while Mk1 and Mk2 Minis with the two-piece headlining had the lamp positioned centrally in the roof.
Original lamps are often heavily discoloured, brittle, and prone to cracking during removal, making a replacement unit a worthwhile investment while supplies remain available. For installation, use No. 6 countersunk screws, approximately 3/4" long.
Manufactured by Wingard, the company was acquired by Griffiths & Bentley (owners of Britax) in 1972 and later became part of the Bristol Street Motors Group. Production of this lamp ceased in 1974, after which it was replaced by the rectangular 13H8919 and later the EAM1650 style through 1983.
