Description
These are the later A+ type specifications, which Rover adopted when upgrading the idler gear material on injection models. Refer to the workshop manual for shimming instructions. The idler gear in all Mini power units must be installed with precision.
The thrust washer is available in various thicknesses to ensure accurate setup; this particular one measures 0.132–0.133 inches.
Two (2) are required per gearbox.
The idler gear requires shimming to achieve the correct clearance—typically 3 to 6 thousandths of an inch, according to the workshop manuals. However, a clearance of 3 thousandths for road use and 4 thousandths for racing has proven to be reliable.
