Panel installation

The tough part of installing the crossmember is pulling the floor up tight, my solution was to build a jig to clamp everything in place for final spot welding. Notice the two different colors of primer, this is weld through primer that is used in all panel seams to prevent rust from weeping out later. After the cross member was installed, the new jacking points are were fitted and installed followed by installation of the sills.  The new rear valence has been installed and along with the battery box.

Inner fender welded

The inner fender have been seam welded on. The inner sills are slowly getting there replacement sheet metal installed and ready for cross member installation. Also spent some time welding up extra holes in the fire wall that are not necessary.

Inner fenders are in

Both inner fender are tacked into place, just waiting on one small bonnet prop bracket to install before I can seam weld the inner fender and spot weld the front end on. Going to go ahead and put the body back on the rotisserie and start working on the rockers while I wait. Also notice the FE numbers were removed from the original front end, cleaned and spot welded in.

Body epoxy primer and metal being fitted

The body has been epoxy primed and the metal work has begun. Started by fitting the front panels and bonnet and then started cutting and replacing the inner fender. You will notice I cut back the inner fender to allow the seam for the replacement to be hidden and only show in the fender well.

Back from the blaster

Picked up the body shell and panels from the blaster. Over all the body is in good shape needing on minor fixes. The worst panel is the Boot lid as it is filled with holes from being pulled out.  Both quarter panels have holes from previous body damage along with on of the door skin and matching a-panel.  Now to epoxy prime to prevent rust and begin replacing metal and pulling out dents.

New Project

Started working on a new project. Genuine MK1 Cooper, as first glance you may ask why is it going under the knife, but the car has at least 3 septate paint jobs,  Leftover front fender under the new ones. Beat up inner fender, rust in both sills and a mangled rear valence. Here are some shots of it going under the knife getting ready to go off to the blaster.

A New product

Spent some time Making US spec licence plate brackets, that are now available at 7ent. The brackets were cut on the CNC fallowed by hammer forming them around a metal buck. Spotwelding in mounting studs and finally spotwelding the upper reinforcement. The design could have been simplified but I wanted them to be indistinguishable from an original.  Below are some pictures of a NOS (new old stock) one and my reproduction.

Back from a trip

I spent last week down in Amelia Island, Florida., prepping cars for the Gooding Auction. Here are a few picture of the cars and of the event.

Ready for delivery

Finished up priming, wet sanding  and painting the front end. Also blended the color through the doors for a perfect color match. Here are a few picture before it was loaded up for delivery.

Metal work and fitment done

The front clip has been spot welded together as the factory did.  The fender are pinned to the A-panels so they will stay aligned. The entire front clip is removable with just 2 pins, 2 dzus fasteners and 2 screws to hold the fender flairs.  The bonnet operates as normal and is on quick release hinges to be removed as well.  Now time to do body work on the windshield frame before final paint.
